WORSHIP INITIATIVE DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Something that Ellie and I have been enjoying is the Worship Initiative Daily Devotional. They text you a link to it every morning and they do a quick 15-minute devotional related to a worship song and sing it. It’s been a great way to start the morning or listen to while driving.

EVERY BITTER THING IS SWEET
Sarah Hagerty

I just finished reading Every Bitter Thing is Sweet. I have a couple of other books by Sarah. This one is her personal story of physical and spiritual barrenness. The book tells the story of a loving God who transforms pain, bitterness, and loss into a profound invitation to know Him more deeply. It is in this very place where true life is found.

LOVE INC DES MOINES

I currently serve on the board of the recently launched Love INC Des Moines, located on MLK in the facility formerly known as the Friendship Center.

Love INC’s mission is, in the simplest terms, to equip the Church to offer Redemptive Compassion. This approach helps us move beyond merely meeting needs, which often results in enabling, toward walking with people in ways that restore dignity and inspire lasting transformation.

Our Director, Shelia Miguez, recently shared a 20-minute talk at a conference that beautifully explains the heart behind Redemptive Compassion. I encourage you to take the time to listen—it’s an excellent overview of what makes Love INC unique and why this movement matters so deeply for our city.

GROUNDED IN GRACE
Jonathan Holmes

I just read Grounded in Grace by Jonathan Holmes. It’s a fantastic, quick read for any parent who wants to help their kids find their identity in something deeper than performance or feelings.

Holmes does a beautiful job helping parents understand how today’s culture shapes identity and why it leaves kids feeling confused and insecure. He walks through the five main areas where teens tend to root their identity: sports, academics, moralism, sexuality, and gender. He offers biblical wisdom and practical steps to guide them toward something far better: an identity grounded in God’s unchanging grace!

If you’re a parent, teacher, or anyone working with kids or teens, this book is a must-read. It reminded me that as parents, we have the privilege of pointing our children to the secure identity they can have in Jesus Christ.

The Worship Initiative

This has been one of my on-repeat songs for the last couple of months. Just good truth that’s encouraging.
