What Does the Bible Say About… Israel?
We continued our What Does the Bible Say About…? series by looking at the topic of Israel. With so much attention, controversy, and confusion surrounding Israel in today’s world, I wanted our church to step back from the noise of culture and ask a much simpler question: what does the Bible actually say?
One of the themes throughout that sermon was the reminder that Scripture—not media narratives, political talking points, or online conspiracy theories—must shape the way Christians think about Israel and world events.
As we walked through passages like Deuteronomy 30, Galatians 3, Romans 11, and Zechariah 12, we saw that God’s promises to Israel have not been abandoned or forgotten. The Bible presents Israel as playing a significant role in God’s unfolding plan for history, including events connected to the return of Jesus Christ.
We also spent time addressing the false idea that the church has somehow replaced Israel entirely in God’s plan. Looking carefully at Scripture, we saw that while Gentile believers have been graciously brought into God’s family through faith in Christ, God still has future purposes for the nation of Israel. Romans 11 especially reminds us to approach these truths with humility, not arrogance.
Another important emphasis from the message was a warning against anti-Semitism and conspiracy thinking. Throughout history, Israel has faced extraordinary and unreasonable opposition, scrutiny, and hatred. Whereas we can critique Israel’s decisions and actions as a nation, we must be cautious to not join the Satanic opposition and undue criticism of them as a nation state. A general “Anti-Israel” sentiment is tantamount to being on team Satan.
At the heart of the message was this reminder: God is faithful. Faithful to preserve His people. Faithful to keep His promises. Faithful to accomplish His purposes in history. And faithful to send Jesus again at exactly the right time. God intends for Israel to survive until the end times. They are the key to call Jesus back to the earth to establish His Kingdom. For that reason, we should help to support and preserve them as a people and a nation.
As believers, our response should not be fear or obsession with headlines, but worship, faithfulness, and hope. May we be people who trust God’s Word, think biblically about the world around us, and live with eager expectation for the return of King Jesus.
